GB-2 (Subject- Pet Peeve) "Hildas Bra"

(Subject: Pet Peeve)    HILDAS BRA--- SELFISHNESS SPOILS LIFES PROTOCOL

I once worked for a company that each year, the week prior to Christmas, they would order in lunch for all the employees. Each day of that week a different food was ordered in. There was always plenty to go around, and the left overs were quickly scooped up who get excited over "free food".

On the last day of the week, a Chinese buffet was always brought in. This would really get Hilda going. Hilda was short, stocky , large breasted dame that loved Chinese food! She had been known to charge the line, pile up a mountain of food, only to return to the food line moments later! "Where does she put it?" I would laughingly ask. One minute she was in front of me using a squeegy to fill her plate, and next she is standing behind me giving me a nudge to move faster!!!

There is a marvelous protocol that we are all born with. This "protocol" has us instinctively care for and protect our young. This "protocol" will have us jump when we hear another human cry in pain. This "protocol" will have our hearts open up and share with others who are less fortunate. The only thing that disrupts this "protocol" is selfishness. It's a selfish love that disrupts the simple logic of our nature. Thus chaos gets invited to the picnic.

It is just this kind of love that is my peeve.

Hildas love, her selfish love of Chinese food which forces her to get on line, again and again, and have us wonder about that sagging bra she is wearing, is proof enough how our love, when executed with selfishness spoils the wonderful protocol that we were blessed with!

I guess her husband always looked forward to that sweet and sour breast of chicken!

  1. I like the way you used the word "protocol" in this post. I'm not sure that all people have the same built-in "protocol", but I hope for the most part they include the kind of love you describe here. (not the Chinese squeegee part ;-)

    Nicely done!

    1. Thanks for stopping by! Living was actually designed to be a whole lot simpler and easier. We just added things like selfisness , greed and jealousy and screwed the whole process up! Have an easy day!!!

  2. Selfish love. Unfortunately, the world is full of that, isn't it? I am most grateful for the ones who love forward and outward and also love themselves. That's my goal, always. Being selfish and acting on it, is pretty easy, but it's also pretty ugly.

    1. Yes, it's my #1 peeve, selfishness. I can live with people who want more for themselves, but when their behavior offends others at the expense of their own gain, that really gets me!

  4. I am glad to know you see the insightfulness, I do sometimes wonder, is it possible she wasn't being selfish but was just trying to seduce me with the lo mein dangling in her clevage??

  5. So she stuffs wontons in her bra or she eats so much her chest grows? Haha. With either scenario, it's an interesting way to make a point. Thanks for the visit.

    1. Hi Joyce, Women! Go figure, in their teens they pad with tissues and in their 50"s its with Wontons! LOL

I am delighted that my point made its way through. The day before Chinese buffet was the 6 foot sub day! Where did she ever find room for that!

    1. Claudia, I picture her coming home, unfastening her bra and telling her hubby, "pick one from column A and one from Column B" :)

  9. Unfortunately, I think selfishness is taking over the hearts and souls of too many people in the world. I hope the "protocol" remains strong in the rest of us. Oh, I almost forgot - I'll never look at chicken at a Chinese buffet the same way again!

  10. I love your description of the protocol, though I haven't heard that term for it. I also believe that we all have that capacity for selfless love but we let it get buried under greed, the need to be "on top" and our jealousy of anyone we think is "better" or better than we are.

    Thanks for the mood boost!

  12. Me, me, me. There's a whole lot of that attitude out there, but fortunately, it's not the norm.

I love the way you approached this one, Marc.

  13. That is so funny!! It reminded me of when I used to go to the maple syrup festival nearby and this lady, who will forever be known as Mrs. Sausage, stuffed sausages in her purse for later. It was an all you can eat and her antics were hilarious. She couldn't get enough of that sausage and had a eagle eye out for anyone who might not finish theirs as well. Waste no want not! LOL. Great post!

  14. I love the word selfless, I hate the word selfish-especially when describing love.

This post made me think of the people who go to Costco or some other store during the times they give out samples of food. I have been pushed, nudged, and prodded out of the way by people who decided to get a free lunch.

    Great post.
